Harry Potter Slytherin Cocktail Recipe
Welcome to the wizarding world of Harry Potter Cocktails.
In this series of Movie Inspired Drinks, I’ll be sharing 5 Harry Potter themed cocktails and drinks that you can make at home. Whether its time for your annual Harry Potter movie marathon, or you’re throwing a wizard inspired party. These are the recipes for you. Starting with the Slytherin inspired Cocktail.
What is Slytherin in Harry Potter
So perhaps you’ve taken some Harry Potter sorting hat house quiz to see what house you’re in and want to make a cocktail to celebrate. You got Slytherin? Ahwell, don’t think that makes you evil.
Or perhaps you’ve been living under a rock for the last 25 or so years and have no idea what Harry Potter is. Either way, you might be curious to know more about Slytherin. So let’s just cover that. If anything, it’ll at least help me hit my keyword target.
Slytherin was one of the four Houses at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded by Salazar Slytherin. In establishing the house, Salazar instructed the Sorting Hat to pick students who had a few particular characteristics he most valued. Those characteristics included cunning, resourcefulness, leadership, and ambition.
And that’s directly from the Harry Potter Fandom so you know its right.
What are the characteristics of Slytherin in Harry Potter?
Slytherin has a reputation of being the house of evil wizards and witches. In the world of Harry Potter, Slytherin = Villain.
But it isn’t all doom and gloom. Those who are placed in Slytherin are well known for their skills of self-preservation and using cunning techniques to get exactly what they want. The traits that get you placed into Slytherin are ambition, resourcefulness, determination, and cleverness.
Ingredients for the Slytherin Cocktail
The drink, as with all the other Harry Potter house cocktails, have to have a certain aspect. The correct color. Which for Slytherin, is green.
#1 Midori
In order to achieve this, we’re going to use the vibrant green melon liqueur known as Midori. If you can get your hands on any other green liqueur, it should work just as well. Just make sure it pairs well with our second ingredient…
#2 Orange Juice
Orange adds a nice flavor to this cocktail. The melon and orange pair together beautifully. Especially when paired with citrus.
#3 Lime Juice
Speaking of citrus, for this cocktail we’re going to use lime juice. Not only is it sour as Slytherin and green as green can be, but it adds a beautiful balance to our Slytherin cocktail.
#4 Vodka
The final ingredient to create our Slytherin cocktail is vodka. Which will balance that sweetness and add more ABV to our cocktail.
For the Serve
That about covers the ingredients for this Harry Potter inspired Slytherin cocktail, but let’s cover some other basics to get you started:
Cocktail Shaker Set
You’re going to need a cocktail shaker as this is a shaken cocktail. If you don’t already own a cocktail shaker, I’d recommend picking up a Boston shaker, which is a tin on tin styled shaker. That being said read this article about the 4 different styles of cocktail shakers so you can better decide which shaker will suit you.
And if this is your first shaker, get a set so you have everything you need and can upgrade each piece to suit yourself.
If you’re not ready to make the plunge into buying a cocktail shaker, then use a jar with a tight fitting lid, or any similar container with a tight fitting lid that you can fill with ice and liquid and shake without it coming loose.
Tips and Tricks
Garnishing
I leave this cocktail ungarnished other then that Slytherin house logo, but if you were to serve this at a party, I real showstopping garnish that would scream Slytherin would be gummy snakes.
If you’re cocktail is full of ice which it should be, then gummy snakes should sit nicely on top.
Make it Sparkling
You could also make this drink sparkling if you prefer something fizzy. To do this, simply serve it in a taller glass and top it with lemon and lime soda.
