The Glitterball - Strictly Come Dancing Themed Cocktail Recipe
Strictly Come Dancing. Camp, sparkly, and entertaining. They’re just a few keywords that come to mind when I think about Strictly. And you know what shares those same properties?.. cocktails.
And as Strictly is on a Saturday which happens to be the preferred day for indulging in sweet and interesting libations. Why not put two and two together and have a Strictly Come Dancing themed cocktail this Strictly season?

The Glitterball Cocktail
Enter, the Glitterball Cocktail. A cocktail so camp that Craig Revel Horwood would be screaming fab-u-lous like there’s no tomorrow.
The Perfect Cocktail for Strictly
Not only are the colours screaming Strictly and not only does it have an actual disco ball topper sticking out of it (which by the way, you can get here). But it actually glitters.
Honestly, the photo does not do this one justice, the entire cocktail is a magical swirl of purple shimmers thanks to the addition of edible glitter.
And the best part? It’s super easy to make at home so you can have these whilst watching Strictly. That being said, it’s not just for Strictly.
Disco
This cocktail would work great for any disco themed party or event. I’d even let it slide if you served this for any 70s or 80s party in general.
The Garnish
For the garnish, we’re using a disco ball topper. Which is something you can print at home, cut out, and stick to the back of a toothpick. They’re also great for garnishing cakes.
For all the topper garnishes check out this pack here. You’ll get the full set ready to print and cut at home as and when you like. The print-at-home method means you can print as many as you like.
You can also pick it up of Etsy if you prefer.
How to make cocktails shimmer
To get that magical shimmer effect for your cocktail, you’re going to need some edible glitter.
This is not a complicated process but you need to make sure you’ve got the RIGHT glitter.
Not edible, and, well, that’s not going to work is it. So step 1, make sure it’s edible glitter.
Step 2. In order for the cocktail to shimmer it needs to be a fine powder glitter. Not the flaky stuff you use for cakes.
The brand below is the one I use, they have loads of different colours and they always work well for me. Just stir a quarter of a teaspoon (yes, that’s all you need) into any drink and when you stir it’ll magically shimmer. It’s that easy.
The full Strictly Come Dancing party pack
The reason I’m doing this in the first place is because every year I spend my Saturday locked indoors watching Strictly and every year I make it more and more of an event. Each week with drinks and games. Almost like a mini Strictly party every Saturday for 13 weeks.
This year I’m putting all of those props, games, and drinks into a pack which you can get so you’re able to have your own mini Strictly Saturday’s every week.
Check it out below.
It’s basically everything you would need to throw a Strictly party. But word of warning, be careful with that drinking game. It’s a killer!
You can also purchase it on Etsy if you prefer, check it out on Etsy here.

Tips on making your cocktail shimmer
The photo of this really does not do it justice. I mentioned this above but just to recap. This cocktail has a magical shimmer to it but to achieve said shimmer, you need specific glitter.
Firstly, it HAS to be edible, don't go drinking arts and crafts glitter. Secondly, it needs to be a fine powder, so not just your regular cupcake glitter. This is the brand I use.
Nothing quite screams Strictly Come Dancing like purple edible glitter. That being said, the glitter adds no flavour so you can skip it completely if you want or use whatever other colour glitter you want. Gold also fits the brief perfectly.
