Harry Potter Gryffindor Cocktail Recipe
Welcome to the wizarding world of Harry Potter Cocktails.
In this series of Movie Inspired Drinks, I’ll be sharing 5 Harry Potter themed cocktails and drinks that you can make at home. Whether its time for your annual Harry Potter movie marathon, or you’re throwing a wizard inspired party. These are the recipes for you. This one specifically, is for the most popular, this, is the Gryffindor inspired Cocktail.
What is Gryffindor in Harry Potter
So perhaps you’ve taken some Harry Potter sorting hat house quiz to see what house you’re in and want to make a cocktail to celebrate. You got Gryffindor? Congratulations, you’re in the house everyone wants.
Or perhaps you’ve been living under a rock for the last 25 or so years and have no idea what Harry Potter is. Either way, you might be curious to know more about Gryffindor. So let’s just cover that.
Gryffindor was one of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was founded by Godric Gryffindor. Gryffindor instructed the Sorting Hat to choose students possessing characteristics he most valued, such as courage, chivalry, nerve and determination, to be sorted into his house
And that’s directly from the Harry Potter Fandom so you know its right.
What are the characteristics of Gryffindor in Harry Potter?
Gryffindors are known for their bravery, honor, loyalty, and boldness. Gryffindors also have weaknesses, such as recklessness, self-righteousness, short tempers, and a desire to always be the hero.
It’s hard too determain exactly what makes a Gryffindor as the main characters in Harry Potter are all Gryffindors, all different, and all would be suited in other houses. Ron should be a Hufflepuff, Hermione should be a Ravenclaw and Harry Potter himself is more a Slytherin.
They’re supposedly the heros but sometimes it comes of more self centred. Anyway, my point is that it’s by far the most popular house in Harry Potter and the one everyone wants. There the “cool” kids.
Ingredients for the Gryffindor Cocktail
The drink, as with all the other Harry Potter house cocktails, have to have a certain aspect. The correct color. Which for Gryffindor, is red.
I also wanted to make this more of a tiki drink but with a hit of bitterness. Mainly because I’m bitter the sorting hat didn’t put me in Gryffindor…
#1 Dark Rum
Dark rum makes the base spirit for this cocktail. It’s hearty, it tough, it stands up well with the rest of the ingredients.
#2 Pineapple Juice
Next, for that tiki twist we’re going to add pineapple juice to give this a tropical edge.
#3 Grenadine
Grenadine is a pomegranate syrup, Popular in tiki drinks and also makes anything you put it in bright red. Which is perfect for this cocktail.
#4 Lime Juice
For giving this drink a sense of acidity.
#5 Campari
Finally we have out bitter ingredient. Campari. An Italian bitter liqueur which is red in color.
For the Serve
That about covers the ingredients for this Harry Potter inspired Gryffindor cocktail, but let’s cover some other basics to get you started:
Cocktail Shaker Set
You’re going to need a cocktail shaker as this is a shaken cocktail. If you don’t already own a cocktail shaker, I’d recommend picking up a Boston shaker, which is a tin on tin styled shaker. That being said read this article about the 4 different styles of cocktail shakers so you can better decide which shaker will suit you.
And if this is your first shaker, get a set so you have everything you need and can upgrade each piece to suit yourself.
If you’re not ready to make the plunge into buying a cocktail shaker, then use a jar with a tight fitting lid, or any similar container with a tight fitting lid that you can fill with ice and liquid and shake without it coming loose.
