Blue Greek Yogurt and Granola bowl (Healthy breakfast recipe)
Let's talk about Yogurt and Granola bowls and why it's the best food for a healthy, high protein, cheap, and quick breakfast.
Below you will find my perfect coconut, fruit yogurt, and granola bowl recipe along with a vegan alternative and all the tools you need to create your own yogurt and granola bowls.
Breakfast
It’s meant to be the most important meal of the day. But if you’re anything like me, then you just can't be bothered to put in the effort. I’m tired in the morning, I don’t have the energy to cook an extravagant breakfast.
I mean, sure, just like everyone else I love a good fry up or smoked salmon bagel. But nothing quite beats the ease of yogurt and granola.
These 5 minute recipes are easy to follow, easy to switch up, and healthy.
And when I say 5 minutes, i’m using that time frame loosely. It’s more like 2 minutes if you’re in a rush. Then when I say healthy, I mean, heeallthy. The perfect amount of carbs to get you going in the morning, high protein, and filling.
It's yummy, it's delicious, it's healthy, perfect for dieting, and it's quick. It’s one of my favourite breakfasts to have and hopefully, it’ll be one of your favourites too.
Who is this recipe perfect for?
Gym bunnies and health conscious individuals:
Due to its low calories, high protein combo, it makes for the perfect breakfast for starting your health kick or continuing it. Waking up and starting the day feeling healthy will encourage you to continue the day as such.
Busy people:
If you’re the type of person who has a busy schedule, then starting the day with a nice breakfast can seem unrealistic.
If you barely have time to cook yourself a proper dinner you’re unlikely to find the time to make yourself a proper breakfast. It’s just so much easier to grab a sandwich at the train station, a packet of crisp on the way to work or just to hold out until lunch.
Apart from that being unhealthy, it can also start to get expensive. This takes less than 5 minutes to make, it's easy to find time for 5 minutes in the morning.
Money saving people:
The ingredients for these Yogurt and granola bowls are cheap and easily sourced. It may seem like a small amount of money to save, but it really adds up over time.
Kids:
Yogurt and granola has a fun aspect to it. I know I know, but hear me out, it really does!
Depending on the different fruits and ingredients you use. The yogurt acts as a canvas for your breakfast masterpiece. So you can get creative as you like, designing different fruit patterns. Try adding the yogurt to bowls and having a selection of different fruits, get your kids to choose what they want to add and how they want to add them.
It's not just creative and fun but gives them a feeling of control over their own food. It's a good start to getting your kids interested in food and cooking early one. Not to mention it encourages them to eat more fruits.
Anyone that wants a delicious breakfast:
Above all the other reasons for this recipe. It's easy, it's quick, it saves on money and is healthy. But above all, it really is delicious.
Breakfast on the go
One of the best things about this recipe is that it can be eaten on the go. Rather than serving your yogurt and granola in a bowl, if you’re busy or in a rush. Chuck it in a cup or Tupperware.
Because it’s essentially just fruit and yogurt it won’t smell. So no need to feel inconsiderate about eating it on public transport or in the office.
Vegan?
Another great aspect about this breakfast recipe is that even though yogurt is dairy. You can make it completely vegan and dairy free. You can find dairy free vegan yogurts in just about any supermarket.
Aldi, Asda, Tesco and Morrisons included. Alpro is a brand with cheap yet delicious almond yogurt, soya yogurt, coconut and greek style yogurt. You can also get flavoured yogurts: Strawberry, passion fruit and peach to name a few. Being vegan is easier now than it's ever been.
The granola is something that you need to consider. Not all granola will be vegan. Some will use honey, so make sure you check the packet beforehand.
Get creative
The fruit, granola and yogurt combinations here are endless. For some quick changes try flavoured yogurts. Strawberry, vanilla and peach are always delicious.
You can make your own granola if you’re feeling extra creative or mix it up with the type you buy. A personal favourite of mine is Kellogg’s granola with added chocolate flakes.
