Best Food and Drink Photography Equipment UK 2024

It’s not often I do a photography post on this blog. Usually you’ll spot me preaching wellness, reviewing products, and talking about all things food and drink. But one thing that is common throughout all those posts you see on here - is photography. Those recipes need pictures, those reviews need imagery. Not to mention I also work freelance as a food and drink photographer myself. I even wrote a whole damn book on the beginners guide to food photography. So it’s safe to say I understand the trouble of not-so-well-off photographers finding good deals on food and drink photography equipment and gear.

Food and Drink Photography Needs

Before we begin with the deals, let's look at what you first need for food and drink photography.

First thing is your camera. Most cameras you can get will be suitable for food and drink photography, despite what other “professionals” may say. What's more important is your choice of lens. I recommend a 50mm lens or “nifty fifty” as they say. This will allow you those super clean shots and is the lens I use for all my food photography, drink photography and product photography.

They’re going to be your big expenses which is why Black Friday is a great time to pick up those bits. After that, you need to consider the use of a tripod. For me, I set my camera up and move the food and drink I'm shooting around to create my perfect composition.

Meaning not only do I need a good tripod to keep my camera in place, I also need a remote trigger to take those shots. Especially when I’m looking to get a pour shot when I can't physically be able to take the shot on my own.

Other things to consider will be backgrounds. Foam core boards and textured backdrops help massively in drawing attention to food and drink shots.

And don’t forget those little helpful bits like bags for when traveling to bars and restaurants, large memory cards and lighting for on the go.

I won’t get to much into why these are my recommendations for food and drink photography. Instead just have faith that this is what I recommend for a reason.
