The Classic Champagne Cocktail Recipe
How to make the sophisticated sipper made famous by the 1942 movie ‘Casablanca’ - The Champagne Cocktail
Not to be confused with a Champagne cocktail.
What I mean by that is the fact their are a lot of cocktails with champagne and cocktails with prosecco that you would describe as a “Champagne Cocktail”. No no no, what I’m talking about is the namesake. The classic cocktail actually called a “Champagne Cocktail”
The Champagne Cocktail with a Sugar Cube
Searching for this cocktail can be a pain because of that confusion. The best way to describe this other then “a champagne cocktail, but the classic champagne cocktail” is to describe it as “the Champagne cocktail with a sugar cube” because that’s what really makes it iconic.
What does the sugar cube do?
The idea of this cocktail is to add a whole sugar cube in the drink before serving. Once that sugar cube is added, the bubbles from the champagne will begin dissolving the cube. Because of that process and the flute shaped glass, the entire drink turns extra bubbly causing a volcano eruption of sweet bubbles if you will.
What that does is turn this cocktail from a basic drink to a whole drinking experience
The Best Drink for Celebrations
It also makes this extra festive. In part because of the use of champagne, but also because of that drinking experience. It makes this perfect for celebrations. Weddings, Birthdays, Christmas and New Years Eve. The perfect drink for toasting.
Casablanca
A cocktail that has remained popular for the last 200 years, this is truly one of the oldest, not to mention sophisticated, classic cocktails on this list. After the 1800s it did go largely unmentioned till a resurgence after the release of the 1942 movie Casablanca where the characters were often seen sipping this mid 1800 cocktail.
