Top 17 Pop Culture Halloween Costumes Trending for 2023 - How To Get The Look
The ultimate pop culture Halloween costumes for 2023 and how to get each look.
Ah, Halloween. My favourite time of year. The one time of year you get to wear whatever you want, you can dress as your favourite characters and act a fool without anyone judging you.
If you’re anything like me, now is the time you’re franticly searching google for outfit inspiration. To see what’s trending, what’s popular, and what you should be wearing.
Or perhaps you already know what you want to wear and you’re just looking for inspiration on how to get the look.
Well I’m here to help. Here are the Halloween costumes that are going to be the most popular for 2023 and how you can replicate each look yourself.
#1 Barbie
Barbie isn’t just one of the most popular movies to be released this year… It’s one of the most popular movies to be released over the past 10 years!
Cinemas need to personally thank the creators of Barbie for being one of the only reasons they’re still open.
Although this list isn’t in chronological order, Barbie as a Halloween costume is the going prediction for what will be the number 1 most popular outfit this year. Which means if you’re going to do it, you’re going to have to make a statement.
The fact is every year we see plenty of Barbies on the streets. Barbie has been a popular Halloween costume choice since before most of us were even born.
But with the boost of the live action remake. This year is going to be crazy for Barbie costumes.
Luckily there are lot’s of options to go with when it comes to Barbie. So the chances of you running into the same Barbie are pretty slim. But just to give you some options, below are 2 styles you can replicate to live out your Halloween Barbicore dreams.
Option 1: Hot Skatin' Barbie
also known as Margot Robbie’s Barbie Skating, disco, 80s, neon Rollerblading barbie outfit from the film.
Option 2: Cowgirl Barbie
Step 1 for achieving that cowgirl barbie look is to pick up the wig in the last section (unless you’re already barbicore blonde that is).
Step 2 is to pick up these 2 pieces and you’re done.
#2 Ken from Barbie
I can’t talk about barbie without mentioning Ken for all my guys out there wanting to bring that Kenergy.
We’ll do this the same as Barbie just in case you’re going for that couples Halloween costume look.
Option 1: Rollerblading Ken
Step 1 is to get the same shoes and protective gear that was listed above in the Barbie section.
Then all you need to pick up are these 2 items…
Option 2: Cowboy Ken
#3 Oppenheimer
Moving on from Barbie, let’s talk about another trending outfit of 2023, Oppenheimer (something I never thought I’d be saying).
This is quite an easy one for Halloween because A) it’s comfortable, and B) it’s quite easy, it’s a very forgiving costume. All you need is a suit, ideally an oversized brown suit but any will do, a hat and a pipe.
As long as you have the hat and pipe it’s going to look like Oppenheimer not matter what the suit looks like.
#4 Ariel
The Little Mermaid is another one of those which has always been somewhat popular, but now with the remake is going to be massive.
A few ways you could do this one, obviously walking around with a mermaid tail all night isn’t ideal. So you might think your stuck with one of her land outfits.
But let’s be honest, that’s a boring choice. So here’s what I’d do to get that new ariel mermaid look this Halloween in a way that’s a lot more chic.
#5 Wednesday Addams
Technically this was so last year, but given Wednesday’s cult classic following and Halloween association, you just know this outfit is going to make a comeback this year.
Here’s how to replicate the classic Wednesday Addams Jenna Ortega costume.
#6 Evelyn from Everything Everywhere All at Once
Everything Everywhere All At Once was an absolute hit that raked it in during the Oscars. And no character was as prominent as Evelyn.
That being said, I think this one will be an unexpected choice for a Halloween costume this year, but you can’t deny that any 2023 pop culture list has to involve Evelyn from Everything Everywhere All at Once. And the costume is actually quite easy to replicate, so here’s how you can DIY the look yourself.
#7 Rihanna from Super Bowl LVII
Nothing hits the pop culture brief quite like the 2023 Super bowl half time show, and as far as costume replicating goes, Rihanna’s is pretty easy.
Once you get the basics it’ll be clear as day who you are. Meaning you don’t have to go around constantly explaining your outfit choice.
Now the actual outfit Rihanna wore was custom Loewe. Which basically means it’s way too expensive for 99% of the population to justify. Never mind for 1 night only. So here’s how to get the Rihanna 2023 Superbowl half time look on a budget…
#8 Mabel Mora from Only Murders in the Building
Selena Gomez has been making quite the comeback this year and let me tell you. I am here for it.
A big part of that comeback has been staring in the Disney hit show Only Murders in the Building. Which as of this year is currently on its 3rd season. So given the show is currently still popping out episodes and will be until October. Why not go for the Iconic Mabel yellow look pictured above?
Not only is it iconic, but hey! it’ll keep you warm.
#9 Luffy from One Piece
One Piece is the newest live action remake to drop on Netflix and it’s been winning over fans since it’s release.
What started as Manga then was made into anime and has now made it’s way to Netflix. With such an iconic outfit, Luffy from One Piece makes the perfect (and easy) pop culture Halloween outfit for 2023.
#10 Maverick from Top Gun
Maverick from Top Gun has always been a popular option for Halloween. Though let’s be honest. As good as a choice as it is, it’s a little dated…
However, with the release of Maverick, we can finally dust of our aviators and slip back into our jumpsuits because Top Gun is back baby!
And don’t think just because Maverick has historically been a macho male costume idea you can’t rock it if you’re a woman…
#11 Taylor Swift
2023 has truly been the year of Taylor Swift. And with her Eras tour in full swing giving us plenty of costume ideas, it’s a great choice to go for.
Now when it comes to Taylor, because you have so many options, it’s hard for me to pick just one.
That being said I’ve already put together 2 articles with plenty of options for every Taylor Swift era whether you’re male or female. So check out these options for your Taylor Swift Halloween costume inspo…
#12 Elvis
Much like Top Gun, Elvis has always been a popular option for Halloween, and thanks to the movie release, is now back in fashion.
Sure, the film came out last year. But with such a buzz round it, you can bet you’re going to see plenty of Elvis’s this year as well.
My recommendation is to stay clear of the easy option, the one that’s been overdone, the tacky outfit we see year after year. You know the one. The white Las Vegas bedazzled long sleeved suit.
Just in case you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s this one here…
Everyone does that and let me tell you, it’s not cute nor creative.
If you’re going to do Elvis you need to make it modern. Which is why I recommend going for the pink suit Elvis costume.
If you have the hair, slick it right back like in the image, if not, you can’t go wrong with a classic Elvis wig.
#13 Willy Wonka
The 2023 Willy Wonka release staring Timothee Chalamet as the main Chocolatier himself will be released on the 15th of December.
So you just know that it’s going to be on everyone’s mind come Halloween. If you can pull of the 2023 Wonka outfit, not only are you going to be bang on pop culture trends, but you’ll be ahead of the trend.
And for all you Wonka fans, you’ll also get to re-use the outfit when the movie comes out, so you will well get your worth out of it. And as for you up and coming influencers, by the time the movie does come out, you’ll already have all your Wonka-tastic selfies ready to dump online. Win win.
#14 Alan from Barbie
Now we’ve already mentioned Barbie 4 times during this listicle. But what can I say? It’s the top trend of the year.
As a side note, here’s a fun drinking game for Halloween night. Take a shot every time you see someone in a Barbie outfit, chug half your drink every time you see a Ken, and down your entire drink if you see a Barbie and Ken together.
As a bonus, do another shot if you hear the words “hi Barbie”
That being said, if you want to be in the Barbie trend but you want to be a little bit more original, go for Alan. This would be an amazing Halloween costume.
#15 M3GAN
My favourite Halloween costumes are the classic horror outfits, I’m talking Freddy, Jason, Chucky, you know… The classics.
And thanks to the release of M3GAN not only do we have another classic option to add to the list, but we have something pop culture appropriate, so it’s a win win.
#16 Carmy from The Bear
The Bear has been one of the most talked about shows of the year. So you better bet you’re going to see a fair few Carmy’s out there on Halloween night.
Now you might be thinking “Oh, but Halloween is meant to be spooky, that isn’t a horror” but believe me, for anyone who’s ever worked in Hospitality, watching that show gave us all PTSD. It was a horror.
And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, how about this; Not only is this outfit cheap but you’ll re-use pretty much everything and you probably already own everything to put this costume together. So it works great for a last minute idea.
#17 Adonis Creed
Finally on our list is the costume that every gym bro will be rocking this year. Adonis Creed.
But if you want to do it justice and keep it from looking cheap and tacky. Here’s what you’ll need…
