Mens Classic Horror Halloween Costume Ideas
The ultimate list of men’s classic Halloween costumes you can DIY at home.
When I say “classic horror” I’m not necessarily talking scary costumes that’ll give you nightmares, I’m talking classic Halloween.
You know the ones, like when you were a kid and everyone was dressing as vampires, devils and clowns. Oh they were the days!
These days when you google Halloween costumes for men you’re bombarded with funny and quirky costumes; napoleon dynamite or whichever popular male character has been in T.V and film this year. Not to mention… Kens. So many kens.
Well this year I’m going old school Halloween. And as it took me way longer then it should of to find some good old school Halloween costumes and ideas, I figured I’d share all my findings with you. So here we have it, the 11 most popular old school classic horror Halloween costumes for men, the inspiration and ideas and of course, how to get the look.
#1 Vampire Costume
First on the list and the perfect example of classic Halloween costumes for men is the Vampire.
It’s also a great budget friendly/last minute costume because at the bare minimum, all you really need is the fangs and maybe some fake blood.
Other then that you can wear whatever you want.
I’d recommend keeping it black and if you can wear a suit, go for it.
If you do have the money to spend and you want to do it properly, here’s what I’d recommend to get the classic Halloween vampire look.
Now, if you want to go the extra mile and really do this well, I’d recommend these added extras.
#2 Gomez Addams
Gomez Addams is a cult classic Halloween character, it’s easy to pull off, and thanks to the newish Wednesday release, it’s came right back into pop culture.
As a side note it also works great for a couples costume if you have a Morticia in your life.
As for the inspiration, in my opinion no one did this better then Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner.
With Gomez Addams, you also have options. So if the pin striped suit isn’t for you, go for this red velvet blazer look.
#3 Scarecrow
The scarecrow is a costume we just don’t see as much as we should. It’s a fantastic option for Halloween and there are a bunch ways you can go about doing it.
I’d recommend this look;

With the scarecrow, the options don’t just stop at the outfit, you also have a bunch of options for makeup.

#4 Devil
Nothing get’s more classic Halloween then the devil costume.
And once again, you have so many options to make this your own which is a big tick for budget friendly, big tick for customisability and big tick for great last minute option.
Just keep your outfit red/black and stick on some devil horns.
My favourite inspiration for a simple devil look is this one rocked by John Stamos.
Or this one…
Here’s how to recreate that simple John Stamos devil costume yourself.
If the simple look isn’t for you and you want to do the full red face classic devil, then check out this look.
#5 Freddy Kruger
Now we’re getting into the male Halloween horror character section, and who better to kick things of then the nightmare maker himself - Freddy Krueger.
#6 Ghostface from Scream
Ghostface from Scream is another classic look which thanks to Jenna Ortega has had a revamp.
Here’s some inspiration on how to rock a modern Ghostface costume this Halloween.
#7 Beetlejuice
Keeping it classic. How about beetlejuice?
If the classic black and white stripe suit Beetlejuice isn’t for you, a great second option is the wedding look which much like Gomez Addams, would make the perfect couples costume.
How to do the Beetlejuice Makeup
When it comes to Beetlejuice, that makeup is going to be the maker or breaker of your Halloween costume. So here’s a tutorial to help you do it properly.
#8 Clown Costume
Want to keep it classic this Halloween but also send fear into the soul of anyone who looks at you? Well then the clown look is for you.
As with many of the Halloween looks on this list, there are so many ways to go about this.
That being said, I’ve whittled it down to 3 ideas that are my personally favourites, along with makeup tips for each one. Kickstarting things with the most famous Halloween clown - Pennywise from IT

#10 Michael Myers
I realize a lot of the previous looks require some skill and makeup to make them look good, so lets finish on 2 looks that require no makeup and are easy to put together.
