#1 Beauty Queen “Miss Halloween” Costume
First on the list and the perfect example of how to last minute DIY a Halloween spooktacular outfit from a little black dress is the Miss Halloween beauty queen look here from the drop dead gorgeous (see what I did there?) Molly Mae Hague.
Chances are you already own a little black dress so this should come easy. Here’s how I would do it from Scratch…
Whilst we’re on the subject, don’t think you have to do it exactly like Molly Mae did. Think outside the box. Do you have a pink dress? You could go as Miss Congeniality.
Got a red dress? White dress? Or any beauty looking dress? Try going for the prom queen look.
#2 Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction
Mia Wallace from pulp fiction is an absolute classic last minute costume idea for the ladies. And you have 2 options.
First option is pre overdose. This is the easiest. Just throw on some black pants or a skirt, white shirt and black bob wig, you’re done. You’ve probably got everything you need already other then the wig but how important is it, really?
The second option is after the stabbing, something a little more dishevelled, fake blood, a needle sticking out your chest. You know, here’s some inspiration…
If you’re doing this from scratch, here’s what you’ll need.
#3 Bat Costume
What’s more Halloween then a bar?
Well, arguably a few things but you get the point. A bat costume is something you can really have fun with. Here’s my recommendation to dress as a chic adult bat this Halloween…
#4 Black Cat Costume
What rhymes with bat? cat, and something that screams Halloween is the little black cat. Perfect to pair with the little black dress.
The black cat costume has been on a journey. Check any classic Halloween costume list on google, or any last minute Halloween costume ideas list and you will see the humble black cat.
As cliché as it is, it’s still a relevant costume. It’s so cliché in fact, that it’s actually a great choice. If that makes sense?
And the beauty of the black cat is there are so many ways to go about it. Basically, whichever black dress you have, just throw on some cat ears and makeup and it’ll work.
You could go cute and cosy like this…
Or you could go minimalistic like this one…
A classic which I can’t not mention. Is the sexy black cat Halloween costume like these lovely ladies giving the phrase “Halloween is a great excuse to show of your body without judgement” and doing it well.
Other then that, just get creative. Here’s my favourite kit to help you get started…
Simple Halloween Cat Makeup
Finally, it’s the makeup that’ll make you stand out with this one so here’s my favourite cat makeup tutorial I’ve found to help you out.
#5 Wednesday Addams
Given Wednesday’s cult classic following and Halloween association, you just know this outfit is going to make a comeback this year.
Here’s how to replicate the classic Wednesday Addams Jenna Ortega costume.
If that’s not the look you’re after, then why not go for the classic dance dress? Just make sure you practice the dance before going out because people will be asking you to do the dance all night.
If that doesn’t suit you, you can’t go wrong with the classic.
Morticia Addams
As a side note, whilst we’re on the subject of Wednesday Addams, you could also go with the classic black dress queen - Morticia Addams.
#6 Ghostface from Scream
Ghostface from Scream is another classic look which thanks to Jenna Ortega has had a revamp.
Here’s some inspiration on how to DIY a modern Ghostface costume this Halloween.
As long as you have the knife, mask, and a splash of fake blood. Any dress would do but I’d recommend something loose fitting up top.
#7 Mime
For optimal low effort on DIYing the perfect mime, all you need is some pale makeup, and a striped top. That literally it. However, if you’re going from scratch, here’s what I’d recomment.
#8 Vampire Costume
The Vampire, a great last minute look that you can put as much effort as you want in to. At the end of the day, a vampire is just a regular person with fangs, so if you want to go sexy vampire, go sexy vampire, you want to go cutesy vampire, go cutesy vampire, gothic, go gothic and so on and so on.
Personally I’ve always like the cottagecore type dresses for vampires, something a little more gothic like this one.
Vampire Fangs
Whether you’re going all in or minimal effort, you’re going to need vampire fangs. The only ones I recommend are the Scarecrow ones below. They’re comfortable and customisable. Meaning they’ll stay in your mouth all night and look great.
And of course, you’re going to need…
If you’re going simplistic, that’s your look complete. However, if you want to put some real effort in, I’d recommend these 2 finds.
#9 Fallen Angel
Similar to the vampire, this can be a real low effort costume. All you actually need is some black wings. Pair them with ANY black dress and shazam! you’re a fallen angel.
Which also means it’s nice and budget friendly!
It’s also another outfit that would benefit from these gloves…
And if the black halo isn’t for you. how about these.
#10 Witch
There are so many fantastic witch costumes that utilise a black dress. Honestly, it’s difficult to whittle down the list to just a few looks. You can really have fun with this. My favourite last minute low effort option has to be the Kendall Jenner witch…
Side note: make sure you wear some rings over the gloves
#11 Bad Bunny
Modelled perfectly above by the dangerous woman herself Ariana Grande, next on our list is the black bunny.
This is an outfit which in part, thanks to Ariana Grande, is slowly rivelling the classic black cat costume.
Here’s a few more inspirational ideas for your Halloween bunny costume.
And here’s what you will need to get the look…
#12 Devil
A devil is a great choice for a last minute costume. It’s actually my choice of costume this year, I’m going back to the classics. But enough about me. What’s great about this look is that all you really need is the horns and something red, which makes it super cheap.
You can fit the devil around your own personal look, the ways you can go about doing this are countless. So as long as you have something red, just throw on some horns and you’re good to go. Here’s a few looks to inspire you.
To get you started, here’s a few recommendations…
#13 Nun
For the classic nun you can wear whatever black dress you want/have. Don’t think it has to be one of those oversized long sleeved dresses either, feel free to go crazy.
To really complete the nun costume this Halloween, you will need;
And if you want to go for the dead nun look, don’t forget your fake blood.
#14 Greek Goddess
The goddess costume isn’t just for American Frat parties. This makes a great last minute idea for Halloween. Any white outfit paired with some gold and you’re good to go. Here’s what I’d recommend to get this look from scratch…
#15 Karen Smith from Mean Girls
I’m a mouse… Duh!
#16 Nudist on stike
This has got to be the easiest most last minute costume you can wear this Halloween.
Just wear whatever you would normally wear, write “Nudist on strike” on some cardboard and wear that around your neck. Done. It doesn’t easier then this.
#17 "Jolene" Halloween Costume
Probably the most famous homewrecker we’ve never seen. Dolly Parton’s number 1 enemy, Jolene.
All we know is that her name is Jolene, Her beauty is beyond compare, she has flaming locks of auburn hair, ivory skin and eyes of emerald green. Her smile is like a breath of spring and her voice is soft like summer rain. I’d say as far as last minute costumes go, this is a fantastic choice.
#18 Bandit
The classic bandit is one you can do many ways. The classic would be a black hat and striped sweatshirt. But you can go as minimum or maximum as you want - swag bags, handcuffs, eye masks.
You could even paint on the eye mask instead of buying one.
And if the classic isn’t for you, try something more “Spring Breakers”
#19 Risky Business
If Tom Cruise can rock this look, then so can you!
#20 Snow White
With Snow White making it’s return, not only is this a great last minute costume, but it’s trendy. Next year this will be one of if not the most popular Halloween costume, so get ahead of the trend and get yourself Snow White ready now.
The reason it’s a great last minute look is because all you really need is something white on the bottom, blue on top and a hint of red.
As a side note, here’s some inspiration for groups…
#21 Skeleton
What’s great about the Skeleton look is that it’s all in the face. What you wear isn’t even important. You don’t have to even wear black! Wear whatever you want if it’s last minute, as long as you have skeleton makeup, you’re skeleton.
#22 Ariel
The Little Mermaid is another one of those which has always been somewhat popular, but now with the remake is going to be massive.
A few ways you could do this one, obviously walking around with a mermaid tail all night isn’t ideal. So you might think your stuck with one of her land outfits.
But let’s be honest, that’s a boring choice. So here’s what I’d do to get that new ariel mermaid look this Halloween in a way that’s a lot more chic.
If you want to be more Kylie Jenner about your Little Mermaid costume I’d recommend…
For extra last minute mermaid energy, just go for something purple on top and green on the bottom. Maybe even throw in a wet hair look if you have the time.
#23 Evelyn from Everything Everywhere All at Once
Everything Everywhere All At Once was an absolute hit that raked it in during the Oscars. And no character was as prominent as Evelyn.
That being said, I think this one will be an unexpected choice for a Halloween costume this year, but you can’t deny that any 2023 pop culture list has to involve Evelyn from Everything Everywhere All at Once. And the costume is actually quite easy to replicate, so here’s how you can DIY the look yourself.
And that concludes our list of last minute Halloween costumes for females that you can easily DIY this year. If you have any recommendations that wasn’t on the list, do let me know in the below comments, don’t forget to let me know your favourite look and of course! Feel free to send your Halloween photos to hello@smartblend.co.uk and I’ll add them to this article!
Happy Halloween!
xoxo, Cameron
