What is International Tequila Day?
International Tequila Day, also known as National Tequila Day, is celebrated on July 24 each year.
Why is it celebrated? Why not. So International Tequila day isn’t what you would call an “official” holiday. It’s also not very clear where or why it’s a thing.
But what is clear, is that it’s the perfect excuse to enjoy all your favourite Tequila’s, try some new ones, and enjoy some tasty Tequila tipples.
As for one of my favourites, it has to be the Paloma.
How to make a Paloma
One reason that the Paloma is the perfect cocktail for enjoying international tequila day is down to the fact that the origins of the Paloma cocktail are just as murky as the origins of international tequila day. So they have that in common.
Much like international tequila day, we have no idea where the Paloma came from.
What we do know however, is that Paloma is Spanish for 'dove'. And the theory is that it dates back to the 1950s.
Making a Paloma at home is quite easy. Especially if you don’t mix cocktails a lot of the time because unlike other popular tequila cocktails (enter the Margarita) the Paloma is built not shaken.
So you can just add all the ingredients to your glass and give it a stir.
My favourite recipe is
a double shot of your favourite Blanco Tequila
a squeeze of lime juice
a dash of sugar syrup
topped with grapefruit soda
Franklin & Sons
The ingredient with the most quantity going into this cocktail is the grapefruit soda, so it’s important to get a good one.
